CAT (Common Admission test) is roadway for the number of management aspirants across the country. CAT 2018 Exam pattern –Highlights

The examination opens the gate for number of aspirants in the country. The candidates will be given 3 hours (180 minutes) to complete the examination. The examination will be conducted in the online mode i.e. it will be a computer-based test. There will be 100 multiple choice questions in the examination. 3 marks will be awarded for each correct response and 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect response. The candidates are advised to bring the CAT 2018 Admit on the exam day and one ID proof as prescribed by the conducting authority. Without a valid copy of CAT 2018 Admit card no candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall. 

CAT 2018 Syllabus

This year IIM’s Kolkata will conduct the national level entrance examination. IIM’s Ahmadabad has changed the exam pattern in 2015. Since then the examination pattern remained the same.

Section1. Reading comprehension and verbal ability

  3. Total no of MCQ’s-7to10
  4. mixture of MCQ and non-MCQ-10
  5. RC based questions-24
  6. RC passages-5
  7. For questions of verbal ability, there are three sections Para summary, jumbled paragraph and choose the odd one out.
  8. Vocabulary and grammar questions are not there since the examination pattern has been changed. The candidates are advised to read articles from The Hindu, The Mint for good content.

This section is time taking hence, it needs practice. The candidates must solve the previous year’s questions papers as much they can.

Section 3- Quantitative ability

This section is also time taking, as this will test the basic mathematical concepts and basic knowledge. Total no of questions will be 34.This section will include questions related to geometry, speed, time and calculating percentages. The candidates who have a math background are having advantage in this section as they already have studied the topics in their graduation degree. The candidates are advised to refer to the best books for quantitative ability recommend by the experts.
